About Terry McCall

I'm currently working on everything. INcluding this blog. For the past few hours, I've been keeping some of my typos. In what I write that is.

Insomnia

GDMFSOB – DJ Shadow & U.N.K.L.E.

Schedule
So… as you can see by the timing, my sleeping schedule is fucking off. Nowadays, I only start getting tired around 6-7. I COULD go to sleep before then, but I was busy working on the site/being unproductive. Although nothing’s really changed yet (that image took long enough… I’m still a PS newbie), at least the initiative is there. A couple of new songs are up too… can’t remember if I put up Kid A before, but even if I have, its good enough to go on again. Regarding the other song…

Kill Bill
I saw this movie before break and man… its a good one. I didn’t go in expecting much… probly because the lame title threw me off, but I came out with my moneys worth and more. And even though its only a “part 1″, the way the storyline goes, its pretty self-contained (as will the sequel). If you’d welcome a beat-em-up violent movie, then this is your ticket. But as its a Tarentino film, its done in a way that can only be described as fuckingcool. Definately one of my favorites this year.
Oh… and the music… once again, top tier shit. Other good songs include: Twisted Nerve (whistle while you work), Woo Hoo (J-surf) & Issac Hayes’ Run Fay Run. The rest of the soundtrack has some nice soundbytes, Enka, sfx and TV themes, +.

school
School is weak. I have no classes registered. I can’t register for the classes I want cuz I’m not an iCam major yet. I’m not even sure if I still wanna be an iCam major. Blah talking about it depresses me… enough of that.

Well its about time for me to get tired now. I wish starbucks was open 24/7…

Oh btw… regarding the Hell test, I actually only got as far as purgatory… for some reason, the T/F questions always = true when I was there on some beta web browser. See? I told you I wasn’t that bad…

Divine Comedy

Song: Aurora

bjork
I got this quote from All Music Guide. That site is just the best when you’re bored:

[Vespertine is] Described by Björk as “about being on your own in your house with your laptop and whispering for a year and just writing a very peaceful song that tiptoes”

bjork is my hero. She’s waay too funky crazy for everyone. You know about her exploits on award shows (swan). You might have seen her as Space Ghost’s fuckin’ delerious wife on the respective show. But have you listened to her music? Go buy Debut or something right now cuz its “bomb”. Oh wait, just dl it. I forgot about that… (being stuck with 28k is torture sometimes).

Oh well, I go back to SD later today. What a glorious drive that’ll be. At least I have like 2 bowls of shake left. That+good music makes the drive not bad at all. When I get back tho, imma hafta buy a sack that I can’t afford to make up for all the lost partying. This vacation was purely staying home with my family, which was really good for the soul and all that jazz, but it gets kinda boring, and now all I long for is to get fucked. [up.]

books
Oh yeah I saw something on this site that I’ve been frequenting. Who is this “ari” person? I dunno. But the site looks cool and its interesting reading. Anyway, she says she judges books by their cover. Yeah I do too. I think that’s actually why I don’t read nearly as much as I used to. When I was little I check out as many books as I could, lug em all home and read em, then go back for more. Nowadays though… The last time I checked out a book was in early summer. And it was Dante’s Inferno and Dantes’ Inferno. I wanted to read the classic, but since everyone refers to it as “Dante’s Inferno”, I thought that was the full title. That’s how I found the other book. A very interesting read indeed, bout a mad bomber who hits all of LA’s hotspots cuz of some fanatical devotion/hate for another mad bomber (Dantes), and the people who chase them. Of course, there’s Inferno references and shit thrown about. I probably never woulda read it otherwise; its only a mediocre book. ANYway, back to my point. Kids books always have flashy (or hella crappy cartoon) covers and whatnot that always catch your eye. Big people books? Not most of the time. They rely on such silly things as best-selling authors and catchy names to drag you into reading the back/jacket. For me though, only when a cover catches my eye will I read a book not reccomended to me or by a liked author. SOMEtimes the catchy title trick works, or in the case of the above explained, the tricky title catches me (AHAHAHA).

So a note to all aspiring authors: Use flashy/catchy/pretty/shiny cover art. Tacky as it may be, you’re gonna sell more books and gain more fans that way.

On an ironic note, I was just fuming to someone about how much I hate the commercialism of our current society, where flash and fluff is the name of the game. I love how people contradict themselves left and right.

Oh yeah, not everyone knows Inferno. Its not a book. Its a poem-soliloquy-one-of-those-not-regular-reading-thingies. But the version I got was story-y enough for me. By the way, there’s so many versions of it. Flip through em first to see if its the right one for you. I got one that tries to this the same rhyming scheme as the original (Italian was it?) one, so it kinda sacrificed word choice for rhyming and etc etc. Anyway, its about this dude (the author actually) who goes through a forest, meets an angel, who saves his life and also happens to be the tourguide to hell. There’s 9 levels (that’s where the expression comes from) and each one holds progressively worse sinners and their tortures. Man. Now this shit is fucked up. Some of those tortures are just… gooooood damn. But you gotta admit, they do fit the crime. Throughout the journey, they confront a lotta famous people who’ve been condemned to damnation, including Cleopatra, Napolean and Mike Tyson (ok no not really the last 2, this book was written in like the 1300’s or something). It all boils down to meeting the man himself, Satan. But yeah, its a good read. And look what I found just now. Here’s me.

The Dante’s Inferno Test has banished you to the Eigth Level of Hell – the Malebolge!
Here is how you matched up against all the levels:

Level Score
Purgatory (Repenting Believers) Very Low
Level 1 – Limbo (Virtuous Non-Believers) Moderate
Level 2 (Lustful) Moderate
Level 3 (Gluttonous) Very Low
Level 4 (Prodigal and Avaricious) Very Low
Level 5 (Wrathful and Gloomy) Moderate
Level 6 – The City of Dis (Heretics) Low
Level 7 (Violent) Moderate
Level 8- the Malebolge (Fraudulent, Malicious, Panderers) High
Level 9 – Cocytus (Treacherous) Low

Fuck man, 8th!? I’m not THAT bad, shit!

Level 1 – Limbo | Very High
Level 2 | Low
Level 3 | Very Low
Level 4 | Very Low
Level 5 | Low
Level 6 – The City of Dis | Low

ANYway, I should really be getting to sleep. I’m supposed to wake up in 2 hours (yeah right).

Have fun!

Fear & Anime in Vacaville

Hi, I fear not finding the perfect gift. I fear not being able to wake up tomorrow. I fear going back to SD. I fear having noone here to talk to anymore. I fear never seeing the one I love again.

But its a new year soon. Time to put those fears to rest.

Ooh… that sounds so… decisive. Just some dramatic rambling.

Big-O:
Have you seen it? If you follow the series, then you know how stupid it is.

It has a really cool premise. Mankind exists in a future with no past. 40 years ago, “something” happened, which erased all of mankind’s memories. The hero, Roger Smith pilots an artifact of the past, Big O (typical anime giant robot) and uses it to fight crime and shit. The story goes along, trying to explain what happened so long ago. Blah Blah blah.

Originally ending after 13 eps on a super confusing cliffhanger that explains nothing, Cartoon Network revived the series, creating 13 new eps. The 2nd season builds upon the interesting plot, throwing in clones, mad scientists, misguided visionaries, etc etc. + more staples to sci-fi anime. But what’s the catch? the catch is that it makes no sense. I figure that they original creators left it at that cliffhanger cuz they realized how ridiculous the story would become. Cause the plot just goes crazy and shit starts gettin confusing and doesn’t make ANY sense. Oh. And the 26th ep? Ends on yet another cliffhanger, this time twice as confusing.

Some questions and considerations:
Why ARE giant robots so predominant in anime? Why not in american toons? Giant robos are cool. I like giant robos. I don’t like big o maybe.

I like everything about the show (well almost, the dialogue’s pretty weak/forced sometimes), except for the fact that it makes NO sense. That just pisses me off. Investing all that viewing time and etc into the series, HOPING that at the end I’ll go “OOOHHHHH!!!!! DAMN I GET IT!!!” … but no. I’m just all “DAMNIT!!!!!!” I mean, its cool to end on a such a dramatic (and dare I say cliffhanging again?) note, but having it not make sense pretty much ruined it for me. Imma stick with Bebop. Hell, at least Inu Yasha makes sense. I wish I had the $ to just buy some good anime and watch it in Japanese or something. But thanks to the craze, its waaaaaaay to spensive. But hopefully some kind soul out there’ll buy me the Trigun box set.

Oh yeah, they used to run Trigun on CN. That’s my fav anime. I first fell in love with its wackiness, and from what I’ve seen of the latter eps on CN, its story is rather crazy as well.

Well, I gotta go to sleep. And I don’t feel like posting anything worthwhile. Actually I probably shouldn’t sleep, I’ll never wake up in time. Being nocturnal sucks.

Oh, I’ve been listening to new purchases Bjork’s Telegram and Pink’s Obscured by Clouds. Gotta nice Yellow Sub poster too.

Well, tomorrow’s a big day. I gotta take a family picture (that’s what I gotta “wake up” for), see if I can face my old friends, and oh yeah, New Year’s Eve.

Don’t Drink & Drive.
