Tacos Today

JohnBeltran – Dia Brioso
What a Friday! Just had 1 class (nihongo section) and a few 1/1’s. It was nice seein’ ya David, Aaron and Jaime. It’s cool to see you all doin’ good and still havin’ fun.
(Same with the rest of you all!) After my last 1/1, Mel brought up TJ. And since it was only 3, we could beat traffic!

So off we went.

9 adovada tacos each, a horchata and a beer later, we went up to the English speaking dude at Taco Bell and ordered 18 more (hey, its better than the 30 we got last time!).

Damn dude those things are sooooooo good. PLEASE, if you live in San Diego, or visit or whatever, go to TJ and get some tacos. Carne Asada’s always good, but its a consensus between the Mennonites that adovada can’t be beat. And if you can’t make it across the border for whatever reason, go down south to Chula or Southside or whatever and hit up Tacos El Gordo, which is TJ tacos @ US prices (1 for a buck vs. 3 for a $1! = KO! GGPO.)

After that mission, got back, and I wasted time. Mel said Patti was havin’ a get-together and was gonna roll, but she fell asleep.

So I did too (so I guess the “wow… sleeping early for a change” awymsg was still valid.

But of course Mel wakes up @ 1, calls me on the fone, and asks if I still wanna go.

An offer I couldn’t refuse.

So I went, met the Co-Op Crew, saw Tiff, Jose, Salo & Angelica, Patti (of course), Eric (con mujeres), Angelo, and who am I forgetting…

I just chilled on the balcony with the Co-Op & Tiff; Dana gave some interesting sermons bout ucsd politics and the co-ops. I could tell he was passionate about his shit; speaking with force and conviction about the urge to punch VC Watson in the stomach.

Tiff was cool as always: I really felt like you were tryin’ to get to know me better, thanks for askin me how I’ve been. I know I wasn’t too responsive, but someday, we’ll sit down and talk, like that time in….TJ

… the connections are uncanny!

Once Again!

So here I am @ Fernando’s again. Why do I always blog from here? Cuz it has internet, its not far/UCSD, and yes, its a chill place to be.
Yesterday they had a pretty nice “Gin & Juice” party. Everyone was all thugged out; some of the ladies chose the hootchie look tho. I came over with Mel a little bit after it started, and there were already hella people here. You had Jen, Turrel, Eric, & the rest of the bowling krew, Colleen (it was her b-day bash!), Melissa & her brother (con amigo), and a whole bunch of other frat peoples, friends of friends, etc. Anyway, me n Mel left the party real quick to pick up some veges. When we came back though, we had poes everywhere breakin’ the party up, cuffin’ Ron up and yellin’ @ everyone to go home. The cops were all hollerin at Justine to leave, so we went to my car to figure out what to do.

While we’re layin low, we see Ron get hauled off to Detox followed by a big ass train of cars gettin’ the fuck outta there.

What a great partay.

I now live with Tidiane Diallo, Susie Parras, Melanie Natividad & Arash Haile (& Ken Kiweuroiawuerjdsom). It was crazy cuz before Bridge, Mel approached me and asked if I wanted to live with her, Susie, May and Monett. But Things Fall Apart and Susie and Mel were off on their own. So during Bridge, we’re all looking for a 3 roomer, but Tidiane comes up to us, sayin’ we should combine forces. And BLAAOWW!!! The Mennonites are born!
Arash gots a small room upstairs, and his studio downstairs. He hasn’t finished setting it up yet, but I was chillin’ with em the other day just listening to him practice his spin. My man Maurice from Capricorn was sayin that once its done, we’re gonna be Arash’s proteges’, mixin and makin beats all day! Its gonna be crazy, livin and learnin with my intern pops, something I’ve always been wanting to do.
Tidiane also got the other small room upstairs, but he’s eyein Ken’s room downstairs to turn it into a chill lounge/gallery kinda deal.
Susie got the other room upstairs, with double door access to the front patio (and mirrored closet doors!).
Mel’s got the bonus room, and so far its pretty much the most set up outta all of em. She’s also got access to the front patio.

UCSD is not a real college campus.

NOTE: this is a super rant. I just typed what came to mind, no editing. Don’t worry, it doesn’tmake sense so you’re ok.

Hehe!

Sorry for the last post, I was feeling way too desparate and isolated at the moment.

I got a couple a ppl pissed for that one haha.

ANYway,

I’m busy as always. That’s what I always say when ppl say “how are you doing?”. I also like to say I’m xxx, just like everyone else”. Cuz I know that I’m not alone in all the shit that I feel. That alone is a comforting fact for those in dire situations, so it feels good to say.

Anyway,

its the end of the quarter. 9th week is coming up. I have hella papers and all that shit due on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday/etc. Write now what’s stressin me is this Music 15 paper imma hafta write tommorow. I am NOT looking foward to it.

It was tight, but I got too faded too early. Factors: 6 hours of sleep for 3 days + 7 shots in 30 minutes + 2 maybe 3 meals for 3 days = fucked up before busta. I barely got to see clipse. It was funny, cuz I was sittin on a table all fucked up in/out of conscienceness, mumbling clipse lyrics to myself to keep awake. Fucking used up so much concentration power to stay awake during their set. I was rewarded with the church bells of “Virginia” live. I was happy that I saw clipse, so afterwards I stumbled to the portapottys with the help of Adry and did what I had to do. I then stumbled over to Chaka’s (thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!!) and passed the fuck out there. I felt fine by late night, but by then everyone else was passedout/drunk. Ah well.

Earlier that day, I had my one on one interview for the Academic Transition Program Counselor position, aka Summer Bridge ATC. Went like all my other interviews with Auggy & Libs… easy, chillax mode. Then again this morning (hahaha) afternoon I had a group interview with all sb02 ppl (cept Jorge Ramirez, a 3rd year). It made you think. Then I had the ATP 03 Pot luck over at augustine’s house. Good times, sad times. Liberty is my hero and will be super successful no matter where she is. She has an aura of pride, power, strength, sublety, understanding, experience, wisdom, etc. etc. A strong pinay with flowing black hair, Liberty affects the lives of countless people, giving them insight, stability, and self-awareness. She’s hella top-tier ppl.

Well, the only reason I blogged is cuz I saw that Andy Kaufman is blogging now. You know, the dead comedian that Jim Carrey played as? Yeah, well apparently his death was just a prank. Duh! Just google that shit cuz I’m too lazy to post the link. Oh and the other reason is that I’ve been wanting to for hella long but I never have the time. Now that I’m procrastinating at the last minute though, EVERYTHING ELSE IS OF SUPER HIGH PRIORITY. You college kids know how it is.

Well, imma go again, sorry for the inconherence. This post is mostly for an internal audience, not for you lovely people who follow the link on my sub-profile.

Oh yeah, I’m still looking for friends… I hafta reunite with my fellow bridgers for reals though.

Oh. Now that practicum is gonna end, I hafta talk to a few people. I’ll just list them here, because I do.

Kaia
Mel
David
Moe
Arianna

I know none of these people probly gonna see here, so hahaha oh well. I just need to talk to those people because they are similar or important to me. Not to say that any of you other peeps aren’t either, but that’s just who I made a mental note of specific things that were brought up during practicum that blah blah blah blah blah I’m hella ranting and not making any sense. I guess that’s what happens when you don’t blog enough, but have way too much to blog about. blah blah blah sorry

Oh btw, that dude who got his head chopped off? that’s fake. its not real. the us is fucking playing games tryin to trick ppls. Only this time they got caught. Pretty sloppy job if you ask me… there are lists of things that are wrong with the video of the beheading. its a long and very peculiar list. if this video isn’t a fake, then well, i guess the editor sucks (hahaha).

OH OH OH HOUSING: I’M LOOKING. WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH ALL YALL? WANNA SUPER COOL AND CONFUSING ROOMMATE WHO DOESN’T SMOKE CIGS?

i’m out forreals

So now (as of 4-23) I am an official owner of a 15″ PowerBook G4. While not as nice as my last computer, the door to the portable world has been opened and I now deal with all the stuff that laptop users deal with. The bag I got for this (backpack from the Apple store) is decent, but fucking bland and square looking. I kinda wanna return it, but despite its looks, its actually quite functional. Imma check out the bags my roommates got for their laptops (and some @ stores) to see if I find anything that tickles my fancy.
Its kinda cool, cuz I can use my computer in my bed w/o feeling like a fucking slob/loser (previously, I had strapped my lcd screen to my chair, and laid down with keyboard and mouse right next to me. It was kinda uncomfortable for extended periods of time though). Also, having wireless internet is really keen, though i’m still teathered by the power cable (the blood to my powerbook flesh).
Suffice to say, I’ll be around more often, and will start working on another ‘real’ site soon (as i get a fucking mouse. this trackpad shit is stupid).
One thing I don’t like about this is that it gets dirty fast. I’m a palm sweater, so after like a minute of use, I will have accumulated some grime on the thing (especially the wrist rest area). Its more annoying than anything else, me wanting to keep my new toy as clean as possible for as long as i can. But its nothing a wet towel/paper thingy can’t clean right up.

I also have an iSight webcam (and .Mac membership) still wrapped up nicely somewhere; I’ll have to get to that tommorow. Today was dedicated to Airports and HP Printers (which I might add is the most high-end printer my family has owned). The old Epson SC 740 is going back home for the fam. That was a trustworthy printer (unlike the previous SC II pos we had that doesn’t ever remember its connected to the PRINTER port and NOT the modem port, or that you should be able to put more than 5 pieces of paper in it w/o jamming). It did its job, nothing more. Though it did suck that it didn’t have Classic support (the new one supposedly does, but it isn’t working right now… i think? Printer drivers is a messy and ambiguous business in MacOS X [cept for gimp!]), it did everything else just like it was supposed to (a shocker in the computer world).

While deciding on what pbook to buy, I was stuck on the 17″ for awhile (since insurance is SUPPOSED to cover this purchase [and it better or i shouldn’t have maxxxxed out every feature/add-on]) but decided against it after reading (on TidBITS?) that it could NOT be used in an economy seat on a plane (but ok for economy +). After looking and considering how fucking huge those things are (and how heavy they are), I figured that I’d be way too much trouble to use one in the crowded seats in Warren Lecture Hall or something. So 15″ it was (I did consider for a bit the 12″ for portability reasons, but figured screen real estate was more important).
This book couldn’t have come at a better time either. I have my Music 15 midterm (Globalization, Reggae and Bob Marley) on monday and I needed to do some real>mp3 ripping to study for it. That being said, these 2 things have pretty much taken up my whole weekend. I’ve been setting up the comp, ripping and burning the music and typing and reading and listening to stuff for music.

TomorrowToday there is going to be a little reggae thingy going down in Balboa Park as part of the Earth Day celebration. From what I hear about it, its pretty much a dilluted version of 420. So I guess if someone asks me if I’ve ever smoked ganja before, I could say that it was for a class assignment. Anyway, the reggae part is gonna be in the WorldBeat Center (where that is) so be there. I know I will, along with 98% of the Music 15 class, as its the only 18+ concert there is for the report required for the class. Which brings me finally to the class itself.

Doesn’t “Globalization, Reggae & Bob Marley” sound like it would be the chillest class EVER? Well it isn’t. There are a couple of reasons for this. One of them has to do with the 1st word of the class, Globalization. Now, coming right from an Ethnics Studies class on immigration last quarter (1B), the concept of globalization is still quite fresh on my mind. But since we’re talking about a cultural form here (music), other terms such as popular culture and… well, popular culture is enough.
If you seriously don’t believe me and think that I’m lying about this class cuz I’ve been slacking off, blah blah, check on some readings by Stuart Hall. In particular, “What is this ‘black’ in black popular culture”. Now all of the readings (there’s also a biography on Marley that’s required, but that’s actually interesting) for this class are AT LEAST 10 reader pages (our longest one so far was 27 double pages or something). This article being only 6, I thought it’d be easy-mode. NOPE. I read and re-read this thing 5 times, and I still don’t know what the fuck this guy’s trying to say. I think he talks about black ppl like twice in the whole article. The rest has to do with popular culture and post modernism (which is week 5’s focus apparently, and is something that I don’t understand at all), but is expressed in words that are too big (or made up). On friday I asked the TA what the fuck it all meant. Basically, he said that all it says is that the definitions and context of cultures is always changing. So to say ‘black’ popular culture now is different than saying black pop culture 10 years ago, or in the UK, or something inherently obvious like that.
This article is supposed to be one of the “IMPORTANT ONES” for the test. So important that my TA (an Ivy league graduate) said “I just read what was underlined, that’s all that’s important.” I think there’s about 10 sentences underlined. One of them is as follows:

“Selective appropriation, incorporation and rearticulation of European ideologies, cultures and institutions alongside an African heritage–this is Cornel West again– led to linguistic innovations in rhetorical stylization of the body, forms of occupying an alian social space, heightened expressions, hairstyles, ways of walking, standing and talking and a means of constituting and sustaining camaraderie and community”

BTW, that means: “Europe culture + African culture = something different”. I woulda given a better example of the wordiness of this guy, but that woulda required looking through this BS again. fuck that, as nobody’s gonna read this anyway (and those that do’ll probably skip this [and if you didn’t, i’m sorry you did read]). Also, the class is from 6-9 PM on Mondays. Fucking long and boring.

At least its not opera though.
